March 2017

3/28/2017

While we are officially in the ugliest time of year for the farm (mud, mud, everywhere), the greenhouse is warm and inviting as the first seedlings are starting to fill the space. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, onions, and others are already growing and I will be busy sowing another 100 trays of broccoli, cauliflower, kale, chard, and more later this week! The snow has disappeared around here but the fields are very wet and mucky so it will be about 3-4 weeks before we start doing much in the fields at all.

We are also excited to have our new farm vehicle (which I have named Gertie, for no good reason) and are busy designing the decals that will be added to her. Gertie will be kinder and gentler on my back than 50 lb hauling bins in and out of the truck in a hunched over position!

In addition to our CSA shares, you will also be able to find our produce at the Aberfoyle Farmers' Market this season! We took a year off of farmers' markets in 2016 but are excited to be back at a market in 2017. We will share more details as the season draws nearer but you can expect us to bring everything from vegetable transplants, nut tree stock, produce, honey, frozen ducks, and more! This means that we will be reducing our available number of CSA shares slightly to accommodate the market. Right now, we have approximately 15 shares remaining; reserve now to avoid disappointment! Be sure to ask about our payment plan options. For those that have reserved a 2017 share, you can expect an email from me in mid- to late-May confirming the start of the CSA season (usually mid-June).

Rob is going to take over the next part of this post and tell you about a local company that we support and encourage our customers to check out. Use the promo code 'TERRA' to save 10% on your order.  Take it away, Rob....

Lorraine and I are happy to support Dawn and Brent Vickery of Raw Elements.  Dawn and Brent own a 100% whole food, plant-based, organic superfood business.  Brent and Dawn are big supporters of local organic and biodynamic farmers in the area.  Their business is based in Rockwood and this is where they ship all their products from.  Raw Elements carries a great assortment of superfoods, coconut oil, chocolate, protein powders, and bars.  Something I think everyone would enjoy is Four Sigmatics mushroom drinks!  These mixes come individually packaged for ease of use and include blends for energy, memory, longevity and relaxing.  The Four Sigmatics mixes come with the highest recommendations from all the leaders in performance and well being and sold out when Tim Ferriss started recommending them.  Get a ton of energy without the bottoming out coffee can leave you with. Go to Raw Elements and check these products out - I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!  Get energy and superfoods for less cost than a coffee at Tim Horton’s.  Receive a 10% discount by typing in the promo code 'TERRA' and orders over $100 will ship for free.  Support a great local business that gives back to their community.
